Playroom Reset:
Simple Tips to Organize Toys & Create a Functional Space!

🚂🪁🧸We're not going to lie...playrooms are hard to keep organized.

Kids outgrow games and toys so quickly therefore it is really important to do a regular scan of the space especially before bringing any additional items in.
This particular client has two sons ages 6 and 9 and they are really into trucks and cars but she didn't necessarily feel the need to spend a lot of time and money buying specific storage solutions for those items.
So we worked with what was already there even though we brought a few baskets and bins with us.

⏰🗑️Two hours, two giant garbage bags and a pickup truck filled with donations later and balance was restored.☮️

The biggest tips or take aways?
• When doing a reset like this, always make sure you have a conversation with your kids about what your expectations are moving forward about the role they really must play in helping maintain the space. Most 6 year olds will have less developed executive functioning skills than a 9 year old but they still need to have some ownership and responsibility.
• Don't get sucked into thinking that just because you put a piece of furniture in the room that worked well a few years ago will still be the best way to contain things. In this case, there was a small shelving unit under the TV and even smaller table by the window. Neither really provide significant value. Our recommendation would be to donate both pieces and install a long counter along the window since in another year or two the room is going to be converted back to a bedroom for the older son and he will need a surface for homework. The area under the counter can be used for various storage options like cubbies, shelves, bins, rolling carts.
• The closet should probably be updated at some point to be more functional for the older son but for now it does work with the metal shelves for "parking" a lot of the trucks and cars until they outgrow them.🚚
